Next Generation Academies

The Hawthorn Next Generation Academy is a joint initiative between the AFL and Hawthorn Football Club with an emphasis on encouraging more people indigenous and multicultural backgrounds to be involved in football.

Currently, the AFL has a strong percentage of indigenous footballers, however, a major focus of the Academy program is better preparing indigenous footballers for the rigours of AFL football to ensure they can have long and successful careers.

Australia is a very multicultural country and our national game does not currently have a large number of multicultural players at the elite level. The Hawthorn Next Generation Academy program is aiming to change this.

AFL clubs have been allocated areas throughout Australia to implement the program and develop talent. The Hawthorn Football Club are very excited to be working in the Eastern Ranges (Vic), Gippsland Power (Vic) and Katherine (NT) zones.

The Hawthorn Next Generation Academy conducts training programs in their allocated talent zones for athletes aged from 11-15 years of age that aim to educate participants on football skill fundamentals, game sense and living a healthy lifestyle.
