SSV Girls Football Carnival - Gippsland

School Sport Victoria hosted the Gippsland Primary Schools Girls Football Carnival on Thursday 2 August at Traralgon West Football Ovals. With the growth of the women's game, the carnival saw six schools take part with more than 120 girls participating in the day.

Hawthorn Football Club supported the event and continue to strengthen our partnership with Gippsland region. Representing the club was Next Generation Academy Head Coach Nathan Foley and current Hawthorn VFLW stars Sarah Perkins and Meg Hutchins. Perkins and Hutchins ran skills clinics throughout the day for girls whenever they had some time between their fixtured matches.

The Hawks VFLW players were also able to speak with all carnival participants at the end of the day and were able to share their own stories on making their way into VFLW and AFLW football. Importantly, they were able to provide a glimpse of the pathway of an elite female footballer, inspiring the next generation of girls that their footy dreams are there for the taking.

On top of a full day of footy, the students from Gippsland all left with a gift from the Hawks, taking home a VFLW team poster.
